Fopma in the Spotlight

Fopma in the Spotlight

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Jeremy Fopma grabbed everyone's attention by winning the Central College Dutch Invitational last Friday, and the NCCAA has named the sophomore transfer as the student-athlete of the week.

It was essentially a home-course meet for Fopma, who transferred from Central College for the 2019 season. Fopma showed his familiarity with the course by running a 19:34 6K - good enough for a 5:15 pace. The Marion, Iowa native edged former teammate Daniel Sunvold in a photo finish, sprinting from behind in the home stretch to surprise Sunvold right at the finish.

Even as an underclassman, Fopma brings experience to the team - the sophomore PR'd with a 26:01 8K at the NCAA DIII Central Regional last year, and that time would beat the standing Maranatha program record (set by Will O'Malley in 2012) by a full 51 seconds.

After running for the Dutch for one season, Fopma was given the Most Valuable Performer and the Newcomer of the Year awards, finishing first at every meet for the Dutch in 2018.

Without a doubt, Fopma was the number one runner for Central, and the sophomore now changes the Red and White for the Blue and Gold.
