Work to Do
WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats' Women's Soccer team is seeded #3 for a competitive three-team NCCAA North Region Tournament held at Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) next weekend.
Maranatha will open play in the semifinal at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8 against #2 Providence University College. The winner of the semifinal will advance to the championship to play #1 Faith Baptist Bible College at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9.
The North Region champion will earn a berth at the 2019 NCCAA DII National Tournament held November 22-23 in Kissimmee, Florida.
New this year, the seedings are determined based on the new NCCAA Power Rating System, which ranks teams based on win/loss record and strength of schedule.
Here's a brief overview of the three teams:
Seed | Location | Record | Power Rating | 2018 Finish |
#1 Faith | Ankeny, Iowa | 12-4-0 | 3.750 | 3rd |
#2 Providence | Manitoba, Canada | 7-6-1 | 3.607 | Champion |
#3 Maranatha | Watertown, Wis. | 6-7-0 | 3.146 | Runner-Up |

The #3 seed is unfamiliar territory for the Sabercats, who have been selected as the #1 seed for the last two regionals. Providence has been the Sabercats' nemesis the last two years, as the Pilots have stolen the regional championship banner from the Sabercats in the dying minute of the last two regional tournaments. So the semifinal between MBU and PUC will be competitive to say the least.
This season, the Sabercats beat #1 Faith 1-0 at home before losing 2-0 last weekend in Ankeny, Iowa. Neither Maranatha nor Faith has faced Providence this season, and with PUC playing Canadian opponents primarily, there are few points of reference to gauge the Pilots.
