GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Last weekend was one for the record books, and three student-athletes from Maranatha earned the honor of NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week for their standout performances. Jeremy Fopma, McKenzie Janke, and Alexis Sponable all were given the honor as they all made their mark on a winning weekend for the Blue and Gold.

Fopma earns the award after finishing first out of 119 runners at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College last weekend. The sophomore transfer needed a sprint to the finish to hold off his opposition, flying to his second win of the season at a muddy event. Fopma's mark of 27:00 for the 8K was just nine seconds shy of the Maranatha program record, and he will be looking to set the record at this week's Bethel Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. 

Janke gets the award for the first time in her career, as the quick libero passed the 1,000 career-digs mark at the Edgewood Triangular last weekend. Janke did yeoman's work defensively last week, posting 33 digs in a five-set thriller with Wisconsin Lutheran before leading the Sabercats to a 2-0 weekend by scrambling for 46 digs in seven sets at the Edgewood Triangular. Janke averaged 6.58 digs/set on the week as the Sabercats went 2-1, and the senior libero out of Indianapolis, Indiana passes the 1,000-digs milestone after just two seasons as the primary libero for MBU. 

Sponable broke into the Maranatha Women's Soccer program records in two different ways against Lincoln Christian University last weekend, becoming the first student-athlete to score six goals in a single game. Sponable's double hat-trick fueled a 10-1 win, and it propelled her to 44 career goals - a mark that is tied for third in Maranatha Women's Soccer history. The junior from Middleville, Michigan now has 11 goals this season and looks to lead the Sabercats offensively as the NCCAA North Region Tournament approaches in four weeks.
