Johnson Continues the Tradition

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Kelsey Johnson as the 2019 DII Women's Volleyball Game Plan 4 LIFE Award recipient.

The award is given to one student-athlete per sport in the NCCAA DII based on the student-athlete's playing prowess, academic standing, and ability to demonstrate Love, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence. Johnson continues a rich tradition of award recipients from the Maranatha Volleyball Program by being named as the 2019 recipient.

KELSEY JOHNSON

The Senior from Daggett, Michigan has a combination of leadership and skill that coaches relish.

Not only is she a statistical standout, but she possesses noteworthy leadership abilities that her superiors recognize. "Kelsey is the team encourager and cornerstone when the team needs stability,” said Coach Regina DeLozier. “She truly desires to do what is right and strives to continue to grow in her relationship with God.”

Emily Haynes, MBU Dean of Women, said that Johnson "consistently sees the needs of others and desires to meet those needs through the sacrifice of her own time and labor.”

The Senior is a captain on both the Women's Volleyball and Women's Basketball Team at MBU, and she serves on campus as a Room Leader, a Resident Assistant, and on the Student Body Council. She leads locally and abroad, as she was a member of the 2017 Volleyball Mission Team in Guam.

Johnson earned NCCAA 1st-Team All-America honors in 2018, marking her first All-America selection to add to two NCCAA North Region selections. Besides that, the senior has won four NCCAA regional championships and two NCCAA national championships.

So yes, Johnson is decorated, but it's more than that - she is one of the reasons why the Sabercats have been so successful in the first place.

Johnson holds a 3.86 GPA as a business management major and digital media minor and has earned NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors in both of her upperclassman seasons.
